St Georges Church, Dumfries.
Some years ago we built a large three manual organ for Greyfriars Church in Dumfries, the Scottish border. This magnificent building had a huge tower that dominated the skyline of the town but sadly the repair bills began to outstrip the resources of the congregation and the building was forced to close.
The neighbouring church of St. George, an elegant Georgian building, had a large Compton organ that incidentally Graham's father Arthur Lord put in many years ago during his Compton days. As many of the former Greyfriars congregation migrated to St George’s, the church was offered the organ that we were asked to re install. This we had originally built with “Bradford” technology so the opportunity was taken to upgrade it to the current system. At the same time the specification and audio was re configured to suit the new environment and this fine organ has now been given a renewed purpose.
