St James Parish Church, Birdham
The very pretty church of St James is just a stone throw away from beautiful Chichester Harbour. This well attended church not only found the limited pipe organ inadequate for large congregations but also, the space it took up was desperately needed.
The new Wyvern B228 console sits unobtrusively at the front of the nave on the north side, opposite the choir. The design and historic nature of the building required a sensitive installation plan draw up in consultation with the diocese. In particular this involved placing speakers in a discreet manner that would be visually unobtrusive and aesthetically conducive to this Grade II listed building. Accordingly five cabinets have been fixed above the wall plate on both sides of the nave. In addition, a half column for low pedal frequencies has been positioned close to the console.
The impressive result produces a fine sound, capable of accompanying the largest of congregations.
